Radar level instruments measure the distance from the transmitter (located at some high point) to the surface of a process material located farther below in much the same way as ultrasonic transmitters – by measuring the time-of-flight of a traveling wave.
The fundamental difference between a radar instrument and an ultrasonic instrument is the type of wave used: radio waves instead of sound waves.
Radio waves are electromagnetic in nature (comprised of alternating electric and magnetic fields), and very high frequency (in the microwave frequency range – GHz).

Basically designed as an alternative to sight and gauge glass devices, the MLG is now commonly used in both new construction and plant expansion.
The float guide pipe prevents sideways movements of float and also sudden movement of float due to turbulence. The level gauges have etched SS scale for level indication. These can be of two types: Flapper Type and Capsul Type.
Magnetic level gauges are precision engineered and manufactured to indicate liquid level accurately, reliably, and continuously. These units are completely sealed and require no periodic maintenance. MLGs also eliminate vapor or liquid emission problems common with sight and gauge glasses.
